From the CEO: My Momentous Journey

My vision for helping students — from college admissions to career success.

I am a first-generation college graduate from a rural area of West Tennessee. My high school, located in one of the poorest counties in the country, offered minimal resources for navigating the path to higher education. With no immediate family or friends to turn to, I had to figure out college on my own — how to choose a school, pay for it, get good grades, and finally, get a job.

Reflecting on this, I realized that a few pivotal experiences shaped my college life and set me on the path to Momentous Campus Media (MCM).

The first came during my junior year in high school when I paid an informal visit to what would become my alma mater. Though it was just an unofficial tour by a family friend, the experience was crucial in my decision to attend.

The second inspiration for MCM came during my final year in undergrad. Having spent my summers working at various retail jobs while everyone else was doing internships, I was clueless about starting a career. Fortunately, I discovered the career center in the nick of time and secured my first job.

I worked in that entry-level position for four years before returning to college and earning my MBA. From there, I climbed the corporate ladder, working with brands like Chef Boyardee and Charmin (yes, the toilet paper).

Of course, a school is not a household commodity — it is quite the opposite. For most students and their families, college is the largest expense they’ll face outside of buying a home. Choosing the wrong college can have negative repercussions for years or even decades.

Yet despite these high stakes, most admissions and career departments are stretched impossibly thin when it comes to assisting students. That’s why when I decided to leave the corporate world and start my own business, I recalled my own college experience and saw a great opportunity to support these departments and, in the process, help students at both ends of their college journey.

It was with this thesis that I relaunched the old Campus Publishers as a new company with a new vision — Momentous Campus Media in 2018. Little did any of us know what was in store for higher education — and the entire world.

The COVID pandemic disrupted higher education in unimaginable ways.

Fortunately, benchmarks like in-person campus tours have returned and remain as meaningful as ever for students and their families. Meanwhile, digital recruiting tools have evolved to offer experiences far more advanced than anything possible pre-pandemic. Our goal at MCM is to combine the power of new technology with a memorable campus tour that will help admissions teams satisfy the demands of students, parents and universities without breaking budgets or burning out staff.

And for students planning for graduation, MCM is committed to providing career professionals with the tools to support students as they enter one of the most volatile job markets any class has ever faced.

I could go on about how our quantitative and qualitative research shows that MCM’s vision for engaging students throughout their college application-thru-graduation journey creates better outcomes for students and, by extension, the school they attend.

I could also explain how MCM delivers all of this without overwhelming the professionals who are tasked with delivering these services to students.

But the best way to do this isn’t a blog post but a one-on-one conversation.

Since you now know a little about me, I want you to have my email (brent@makeitmomentous.com) and mobile number (720.515.9223). Send me a message or call anytime (though I’m usually out enjoying the grand nature of Colorado most weekends).

I promise I’ll get back to you personally, and we can begin creating a momentous journey for students.
